Head Women's Golf Coach

Philip comes to MSU from Colorado Christian University to become the second head coach in Murray State women’s golf history following the retirement of Coach Velvet Milkman on July 22, 2022. He spent five seasons as the women’s head coach at CCU, where he also assisted the men’s golf program. In 2022, he was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after his team won the conference championship, finished second at the NCAA D-II Regional after entering the event as the 11th seed and then at the NCAA Finals, the Cougars posted a 12th place finish. At CCU, he built a championship level program including four All-America selections, five NCAA All-Region picks, 18 All-Conference selections, two conference Player of the Year winners, and the #1 ranked women’s freshman class in the nation in 2019. His teams produced a national top-10 ranking in academic achievement in 2020 and 2021, and 11 WGCA Academic All Americans in the last 2 years. This year, his team here at Murray State has already broken the previous program single round scoring record and has seen the development of Eliza Kho and Payton Carter becoming 2 of the best players in the Missouri Valley Conference. Philip is a proven teacher of the game having developed the student-athletes in his care and serving as a certified instructor for Craig Koy Golf and the PGA where he worked with some of the nation’s top amateurs and professionals from 2011-2017.

Nick Newcomb

Current Head Golf Professional at Miller Memorial Golf Course. Nick played golf for Murray State and was a two-time OVC individual champion in 2008 and 2010. Nick was OVC Player of the Year in 2010 and part of the 2010 OVC Championship team. Nick went on to play various mini tours and compiled 11 victories in his time playing. Nick has been teaching golf since 2010. Nick has taught all skill levels from beginner to professional golfers. Nick is extremely excited about the opportunity to grow junior golf in Murray, KY with the start of the Murray Golf Academy in 2023.
